Sex education is not a part of the regular curriculum in many schools in India, but it is important for every society because children are growing up very fast. We are living in a time when the world is changing rapidly. If we continue teaching only old syllabi, it is not possible for children to grow with modern knowledge and understanding.
Today, we consider ourselves modern and accept modern ideas. Sex education is one of those important modern topics. Without sex education, children cannot properly understand what is good and what is bad. We are not teaching them the basic rules about their bodies, relationships, and personal boundaries.
Because of this lack of knowledge, children do not understand what love really means or what physical attraction means. In such circumstances, they become curious and search the internet for information about sex. However, the internet does not always provide correct or age-appropriate guidance. Many people describe sex as something physically appealing, but children do not truly understand their bodies or emotions.
Nowadays, we often read news about 16-year-old students giving birth. This reflects the reality of our society. Society does not openly talk about certain topics. For example, menstruation (periods) is still treated as a social taboo. In many places, periods are considered impure. When a woman is menstruating, she may be told not to touch certain things or participate in rituals. Fathers and brothers often avoid talking about periods. Many daughters feel ashamed to say, “I am on my period,” because from childhood they are taught that it is something secret.
Therefore, sex education is very necessary today. It helps both girls and boys understand what is right and what is wrong. Without proper education, children cannot clearly judge right from wrong.
