People say a daughter is “Ghar ki Lakshmi,”
the goddess of the home.
But on the other side,
a daughter is treated like she is helpless.
People try to shape her life
to attract a rich groom
and get her married after graduation.
This is the paradox of every girl’s life.
She cannot enjoy her life fully,
because her life is not considered her own.
She is given only one role —
household work and sacrifice.
Her desires are not her own;
they belong to someone else.
Nowadays, girls fly airplanes,
girls drive trains,
girls achieve the impossible.
Yet some still think
a girl is only her father’s asset
and later her husband’s property.
She is not seen as an individual.
She is treated like a doll
in a dollhouse —
placed in a showcase
for everyone to see,
but without her own identity.
But she is human.
Today, people say society is changing.
Then why has the perspective not changed?
Why are girls still forced
to live like dolls
in someone else’s dollhouse?
